Jakarta – Icon yang ada di BlackBerry bisa diganti-ganti di kala kita sudah bosan. Namun pertama-tama, siapkan dulu icon penggantinya yang berformat .png. Lalu bentuk sesuai ukuran perangkat BlackBerry Anda.

-. Ukuran icon untuk BlackBerry Bold dan Javelin adalah 80-80, Storm 73-73, sedangkan untuk Curve 8310 dan 8320 ukurannya 48-36.

-. Cari UID emailnya , (User id email yang digunakan untuk menunjukan folder icon email yang nantinya akan diganti).
Untuk melihat UID email: options + advance options + service book + lihat alamat emailnya — view see UID.

Contoh UID: GBISXAPC00S *09*

-. Untuk memudahkan kita membuatkan folder, masing-masing UID email ingat dua angka terakhir di UID tersebut.

-. Buka BbFileScout, cari icon yang diinginkan yang tersimpan di media, bisa .png maupun .jpg, asalkan ukurannya pas. Copy (store ‘icon’ on stack).

-. Lalu paste .png tersebut ke store/appdata/rim/bda/icon/. Buat folder baru untuk masing-masing UID email, misalkan: GBISXAPC00S09. Jumlah folder disesuaikan dengan jumlah UID email yang akan diganti iconnya. (copy ‘.png’ to GBISXAPC00S09).

-. Ganti nama (rename) icon yang difolder UID yang dipaste tadi menjadi 1-80-80 untuk Bold dan Javelin. Untuk Curve 83xx rename menjadi 1-48-36, Storm 1-73-73. (Angka 1 digunakan untuk menampilkan icon) 80-80, 48-36, 73-73 merupakan ukuran icon email yang sesuai BlackBerry yang digunakan.

Jika belum memiliki aplikasi filescout silahkan download di sini: (BBFileScout sudah versi 1.2.0.0 dan sudah diganti namanya menjadi FileScout)

Disclaimer: mohon dimaklumi kalau cara yang saya paparkan ini ternyata kuno, sudah biasa, atau malah terlihat bloon. Maklum, masih belajar pakai BlackBerry.

Diketahui:
* Ada YM versi terbaru, yaitu versi 2.5.27
* Ada sebuah Gemini yang dipadukan dengan layanan BISLite Indosat

Ditanyakan:
Dengan kondisi seperti itu, lakukan instalasi YM terbaru ke Gemini tersebut. Dilarang mengganti kartu yang terpasang dengan kartu lain.

Jawab:
** Percobaan pertama
Dengan menggunakan Opera Mini, masuk ke
http://mobileapps.blackberry.com/devicesoftware/entry.do?code=yahoo. Hasilnya, gagal total.

*** Percobaan kedua
YM yang telah terinstalasi di Gemini saya hapus dulu. Maka, di layar akan muncul ikon YM. Kalau saya klik, maka saya akan diarahkan ke tautan untuk mengunduhnya.

Layar untuk mengunduh sudah tampil. Saya mengklik download. Muncul layar baru. Saya pilih Next. Ups… sampai di sini kok bengong. Berkali-kali saya melakukan refresh. Loading… loading… tetapi tak kunjung selesai. Tampaknya malam ini koneksi Indosat sedang kurang prima.

*** Percobaan ketiga
Gemini saya hubungkan ke Desktop Manager di laptop via kabel data. Saya membuka Internet Explorer dan mengetikkan alamat
http://mobileapps.blackberry.com/devicesoftware/entry.do?code=yahoo.

Sesaat kemudian muncul pop up yang menyatakan saya perlu
menginstalasikan Ax bla.. bla.. bla.. dari RIM. Saya lupa nama
lengkapnya. Langsung saja saya setujui. Berikutnya, di layar muncul informasi untuk mengunduh YM terbaru. Ikuti saja petunjuk di layar.

Dan… akhirnya YM versi 2.5.27 berhasil diinstalasikan ke Gemini yang dipadukan dengan BISLite.

Saya jalankan YM terbaru itu. Saya tak terlalu bisa memberikan deskripsi perbedaannya karena selama ini memang jarang aktif dan mengutak-atik YM.

Dua perbedaan yang saya rasakan:
1. Pada YM lama, saya biasanya memilih tidak menampilkan image. Dengan kondisi seperti itu, tampilan kontak di layar hanya satu baris. Sekarang tampilannya jadi dua baris. Baris pertama berisi nama kontak, sedangkan baris kedua status kontak. Saya masih mencari cara agar tampilannya cukup satu baris. Biar hemat tempat.

2. Misalnya, saya sedang menyorot kontak bernama Mr Bean. Kalau saya menekan menu, ada pilihan “Show In Home Screen”. Dengan demikian, di home screen akan muncul ikon dengan nama kontak Mr Bean. Entah yang begini sudah bisa dilakukan di YM versi sebelumnya atau belum. Saya kurang memperhatikannya.

Nothing makes a blog post more eye-catching than a great header image, but not all publishers have artistic talent. And even accomplished digital creatives often crave some found material to start from or work with in a project. You may be familiar with the Creative Commons free licenses that aim to give creators more freedom to allow sharing and remixing of their content. The most important thing to note is that many CC-licensed images, audio and video files are usable on your blog or site, typically with credit given to the original creator — a quick and easy way to hat-tip the source of the media you’re using.

Ever install an application and find out that it’s a huge burden to your BlackBerry? If you’ve explored the array of unofficial apps around the net, you might have encountered an issue with one. Sometimes that can cause a number of problems on your BlackBerry — including a reboot cycle or a 507 error which will make it impossible to delete that application. If you’re a user of OS 4.6 or higher, you can start your device in Safe Mode, which will allow you to diagnose and remove problematic applications.

The process is rather simple. You’ll have to pull your battery and then replace it. As your BlackBerry device reboots, the red LED will light up. Once that goes off, press and hold the Escape key (or the Back key, however you refer to it) until you see a dialog which notes that you are in Safe Mode.

You’ll have limited application access in Safe Mode — Phone, Messenger, Messages, and Browser — but you can also delete apps right from the main screen. Hit the Menu key when you have the app’s icon selected and you’ll have the option to delete it. That’s that.

Once you’re done toying around in Safe Mode, just remove your battery again to restart the device back in normal mode. Again, this only works with OS 4.6 and up, which is a shame, because us 4.5 and lower folks could use a mode like that.
